iOS 26.5 beta 2 has arrived today, and with it, Apple Maps has gained a new pop-up window related to the rollout of upcoming ads. Here are the details.
iOS 26.5 Beta 2 Includes Apple Maps Ad Pop-Up
Apple announced that ads will be coming to Apple Maps in the U.S. and Canada. However, apart from an unspecified "summer" launch window, we did not know when the change would take place.
However, iOS 26.5 beta 2 is paving the way for the rollout with a new pop-up in the Maps app.
The pop-up includes the following statements:
Maps may show local ads based on your approximate location, your current search terms, or your map view while searching.
For your privacy, ad information is not linked to your Apple Account.
There is no opt-out option for receiving ads in Maps. However, the above information clearly explains what informs the ads you receive: your location, your search terms, and your current map view.
When ads officially launch, they will begin appearing in two places:
- At the top of search results
- In the new 'Suggested Places' feature
Suggested Places was previously available in iOS 26.5 beta 1. When you tap the search field, it offers suggestions for businesses that may interest you.
This new Maps pop-up does not confirm that ads will definitely launch in iOS 26.5, but it seems quite likely at this point.
