Apple highlighted its latest environmental progress ahead of Earth Day next week. This includes the use of 100% recycled materials in three categories. The company also offers a 10% discount on AirPods and other accessories when you recycle a qualifying product.
The company today published its latest annual Environmental Progress Report, which follows Apple's goal to be carbon neutral across its entire footprint by the end of this decade.
The report notes that Apple uses 30% recycled materials across its entire product range, adding that it has reached 100% in three categories.
Apple, which surpassed its target of 30% recycled content in all products shipped by 2025, also achieved several targets for recycled content in specific components last year. Today, all batteries designed by Apple are made with 100% recycled cobalt, and all magnets are made with 100% recycled rare earth elements. Additionally, all Apple-designed printed circuit boards are produced with 100% recycled gold plating and tin solder.
The company has also fulfilled its commitment to remove plastic from packaging by 2025.
Apple completed its transition to 100% fiber-based packaging last year, fulfilling its commitment to remove plastic from packaging by 2025. Over the past decade, Apple engineers and designers have developed alternatives that replace plastic screen protectors and trays with versions made from recycled or responsibly sourced paper. They have also made innovations to make packaging more recyclable.
Apple previously noted that the MacBook Neo has reached new levels of environmental friendliness and is determined to apply similar processes to other products.
With an overall 60% recycled content, the MacBook Neo has the highest recycled content of any Apple device to date. […] Its beautiful and durable casing is produced through a material-efficient shaping process that uses half as much raw material compared to traditional processing methods. The new anodization process has achieved a 70% water reuse rate — transforming this traditionally water-intensive process into a closed-loop system that continuously recycles and reuses water, thereby conserving clean water for only the most critical uses.
Apple is working to expand this anodization process to additional production lines in the coming years.
10% Discount for Recycling
The company also announced an incentive for recycling old Apple products.
As part of Apple’s Earth Day celebration, customers who recycle a qualifying Apple product at a participating local Apple Store by May 16 can receive a 10% discount on Apple AirPods or accessories. Products brought to Apple for recycling undergo a rigorous screening process, and eligible devices are sent to Apple’s advanced recycling systems, Daisy and Cora, for further processing.
