Following the launch of MCP compatibility in Opera Neon last month, Opera is now bringing the browser connector feature to Opera One and Opera GX. Here’s what this means, here are the details.

Opera Takes MCP Compatibility Beyond Neon

A few weeks ago, Opera announced that its subscription-based agentic browser, Opera Neon, gained MCP compatibility. This allows users to connect external AI tools directly to live browser sessions.

In practice, this feature enabled Opera Neon subscribers to access tabs, interact with pages, and perform actions on their behalf using chatbots and tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Lovable, n8n, and OpenClaw.

Today, Opera is expanding this MCP compatibility to Opera One and Opera GX, meaning that this feature is no longer limited to just Opera Neon subscribers.

MCP is an open standard that connects AI models (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and of course Claude) with external systems (like Notion, Google Drive, Slack, GitHub, and Zapier).

Opera emphasizes that this feature, available today in Early Bird mode, reaffirms the company's commitment to user preference by ensuring that users are not tied to a single company’s ecosystem, but instead have the freedom to combine the best tools for their specific needs. To enable the Browser Connector feature, go to Settings, search for AI Services, install the Browser Connector, and then connect your preferred LLM.
